What inspired you to start participating in roller derby? I was a competitive artistic skater for 30 years, even on team USA four years in a row, but that just wasn’t the right fit for me after I retired from the Air Force. Killah B showed me this other side of skating and I’m so incredibly grateful for that.
Advice to First Years: It’s ok to be frustrated and overwhelmed. I cried a lot my first season. But if you like derby, it’s totally worth it to stick it out because you end up a part of a large community full of new siblings who are ready to drop everything to help you on and off the track. We are a family.
Favorite moment: Doing a rhythm skate lap around the rink with Freight Train was epic but tied with that now is when Optimus Grime taught me to do a barrel roll …I did just a very sideways waltz jump.
OG: Were you an art skater?
Lovie: team USA 4 years…now I coach
OG: That’s awesome!
Optimus Grime said I was awesome!
